So, I noticed the outside door handle on the passenger side of my GMC was broken today, and falling out. Seems to be two screws holding it in and the one closest to the door edge was where the problem was. It looks like the cheap cast metal of the handle snapped around the bolt, so while the bolt was still holding that chunk of handle in tight, the rest was flopping loose.

Okay... There's been some vehicle break-ins in my area recently and, even though there's no marks to indicate it was pried, or that someone tried to break in, I still had a deputy stop by and make a note of it.

So, just now I came inside and figured I'd get online and start looking for a replacement. First stop, eBay, where I found a new (aftermarket) matching pair for $25 with free shipping and lifetime warranty. Not bad, but I figured I'd try a few other places too, just to see what the prices were like. Next stop was Napa, which didn't have any, then Advance Auto Supply, which had Dorman brand (cheap imports) for $27 each. Then I tried Rock Auto, which also had the Dorman's, but for $38.89 Lastly, I tried Autozone... And damn near fell off my chair. They had Motormite brand (even worse crap than Dorman) for... sitting down? ... a whopping $80.99... EACH!

Whatever they're smoking over at Autozone these days has to be some pretty strong shit, that's all I have to say!

I'll be ordering the set on eBay next Saturday.

Ebay has become a reliable source for this sort of replacement part... at least until next year when PayPal starts reporting their transactions to the IRS as part of the "Health Care Reform Bill".

There's a joke in there somewhere, trying to get out... Aha! Got it...

I can see where PayPal would be linked to the Health Care Reform Bill... they've been acting just like your average proctologist for years now... sticking it up your ass and billing you for the "service".

Actually not a joke. Part of the health care reform bill (which none of the people who voted on it read) deals with the collection of more taxes. Paypal will be required to report user data to the IRS in the form of a 1099. I am not kidding. In this bill, there are many hidden little zingers.

Then sellers will stop using paypal and start accepting money orders and checks again.

Except that eBay owns PayPal (or is it the other way around?) so the IRS will still get reports.
