My dozer has a bad habit.

Well I want to know if there's anyway to break my dozer's bad habit. Its a td340 diesel. Well the only way to start this thing is with ether. The previous owner said somebody started using ether without him knowing about it. Now this thing only starts with ether. Is there a way to break it of this habit?

Usually no. The cylinders have generally been washed down due to the ether. Therefore compression isn't what it is new. Some may have home remedies but all that I ave tried have been futile. If it will start on WD-40 you may be better off trying that, it works sometimes but is of course no guarantee. Good luck.

How quick is it cranking? If it's barely spinning then compression is going to be really low, and it won't fire. You might want to consider a new, high torque, starter in that case, one that can spin it at a decent RPM. You should probably also check resistance on the battery cables, and replace them if needed, using the heaviest you can get. And, of course, having a good battery is a "must".

wd-40 doesnt have the propane in it anymore unless there's some other chemical that triggers diesels to start. I use Gumout carb and choke cleaner.

Dave it's not really the propane in WD that helps to start it, it's the product itself. WD-40 is a combustible product with a slightly lower ignition point than diesel. Plus it will add some lubricity to the cylinders upon start up.
