Another Stuck Pedal Case

You can't tell me that a vehicle will not stop accelerating when shifted into neutral.

It’s a mechanical linkage, there is no computer involvement. I am not blaming these acceleration problems on the consumer, but the idiocy of them not being to stop is ridiculous.

Not on the Prius, it's an electronic shifter.

This is just the latest media witch hunt. MANY other manufacturers actually have a higher number of complaints for UA, but apparently only Toyota has owners incapable of shifting into neutral or stepping on a brake. ONE THING this has done is bring out the Toyota Haters Club in full force.

No only Toyota has 50+ dead bodies from it. How many do the other mfrs have? That alone should tell you there is more to it than driver error. Either that or Toyota drivers are dumbber than the others.

The link I read said that the cop could smell the brakes overheating, probably hit them a few time and overheated them and made them go weak. Just slamming them and holding it should stop the car. Also read that he tried going to neutral, but the Prius's electric gear selector(no mechanical selector) wouldn't shift it to neutral. Maybe next time I go somewhere I'll try and borrow my roommate's Tacoma so I can drive as fast as I want and if I get pulled over I'll just blame it on a stuck throttle

Yep, this is true. At WOT you have no vacuum assist. So hitting the brakes and holding them will stop the car, but pumping them, which is a natural reaction when panicking will deem the brakes useless.

NO DOUBT Toyota and others have to solve this problem. A little education would go a LONG WAY towards stopping the accidents and injuries.

Ya get rid of the drive by wire throttle system and you get rid of the electrical demons at the same time.

You can thank Washington for drive by wire. It's emissions friendly.

That's not going to happen, people can't be held responsible for not knowing what to do in an emergency. How long until car's have giant, red emergency cut off switches on the dash? Toyota definitely has a problem, but this many people shouldn't be dying from it. I was amazed how many people got into wrecks over the GM's delta cars losing power steering. A 2500lb car can't be too hard to drive without power steering, especially if you're going fast enough to get into a wreck.

The Prius may be the exception, but all the other models are
mechanical.

I'm definitely not defending people, if my truck takes off on it's own it's getting thrown into neutral, I don't care if pistons shoot through the hood or rods shoot through the pan. An engine can be replaced...I can't.
