Wheel Wells - 3M Rubberized Undercoating

I posted this on another site a little over a year ago and while I was cleaning up my truck today I noticed how well it is holding up. So, I decided to start a thread over here for those that might be interested.

I am just going to cut and paste a few of my post from that thread...

After reading all the complaints about the GM wheel well liners, I decided to undercoat mine. So I bought some 3M rubberized undercoating and went to town last night. I am very pleased with the outcome.

I had to decide between the 3M and an off brand. I am glad I went with the 3M. I ran out right before I was completely finished and had to get some of the other brand. I sprayed it in 2 spots and said forget that. It does not look anywhere near as good. So there are a couple areas that need touched up, but I am very pleased.

I cleaned the wheel wells really well first and then scuffed them with some Scotch Brite Pads.

Next I taped off the fender lip and covered the wheels.

I have been very pleased with how well it has held up. Of course I am not on gravel roads on a regular basis, but it looks as good now as the day I did it.

The trick to keeping looking clean is Tire Foam. I just coat it with a layer of tire foam every time I clean my tires and it looks brand new again.

Nice. That's weird because I did mine about a year ago, too, with the exact same product. I've been trying to spread the word.


A note for those that do this: The only issue with this is that it's a very viscous spray. Best to put it in hot water for a few minutes before using or be sure not to turn the can upside down.

It made a huge difference on mine because Ford doesn't paint our rear wheel wells from the factory.

I did my dad's truck a while back, and I'm going to wait till it gets warmer here, and I don't have to do it in the garage
