I need a hobby.
This will be the thread I'll post in as I upgrade my sound system. Each semester I have a few things I do to my truck (big thing last semester was my cover and BedRug).
I've been trying to figure out what I could possibly want to do this semester. Honestly I love how the truck looks on the outside. The only things worth replacing are the flat and faded trim pieces (flares and b-pillars). So I started looking inside. Besides figuring out a way to keep the dog hair off the carpet (impossible
) the only thing I could do inside is redo my sound system. When I installed it about a year ago I had limited time so I was looking more for convenience.
This is what I put in place of the stock system:
Head Unit
Kenwood DDX-512
Speakers
Alpine Type R Components
Subwoofer
MTX Thunderform (pre-amped)
Amplifier
Kenwood KAC 7204
Sound Deadener
Entire back wall, every door panel, entire floorboard. Only thing missing is the roof. Some pics taken from the middle of the old install:
So right now I have the rear speakers deleted and the front comps are running off the Kenwood amp. The MTX is all set up--just plugged into the back of the HU. It's nice, no doubt, but nothing that will impress. It gets plenty loud for me and is very clear, but I want more.
Plans are to have the HU run the rear speakers, a 2-ch amp running the fronts, and either a mono or 2-ch amp running the sub(s).
FYI if you guys haven't ever taken off the back seat rest of an F150--it's a bitch! I went ahead and pulled mine out today so I wouldn't have to do it later. It's time to duct tape some dog hair. Forgot to mention that I will be putting the new amp(s) and crossovers on the back wall instead of on the floor and inside the door panel.
I will be keeping this thread updated as I go along. When I say revamp, I mean that I'm planning on replacing everything. Also thinking about doing the 'Big 3' but don't know if I'll need it. I am planning on replacing all the speaker wire, though. Right now I'm in the research stage, but it should come along nicely.
Stay tuned!
