NASCAR officials announced Tuesday two baseline rules packages for the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season, making a move to bolster competition with enhanced aerodynamic and engine configurations.

The different packages will be tailored to the specific tracks on the Monster Energy Series circuit, with a combination of a smaller tapered spacer to reduce engine horsepower to a target goal of 550 (from 750) and aero ducts to foster tighter racing on a majority of speedways measuring longer than 1 mile. Both features will be in place for 17 of the 36 races next season, excepting the 2019 Daytona 500, which will run with traditional restrictor-plate rules. Five other races will be run with the smaller spacer, but without ducts.

I can actually understand the manufacturers and team owners wanting ot reduce horsepower. It costs a lot more to consistently generate 750 and not blow-up than it does 550 and not blow-up.

I figured that reduction would in hp, though, would get a response from you.

It'll take a little longer to go around in circles with 200 less HP to. :rollin:

It'll probably tighten up the racing a little, hopefully making it more interesting. :dunno:
I probably won't watch anymore next year than what I do now.

At the rate things are going, nobody will be in the stands to watch a race. There were times you couldn't get tickets to Richmond or Bristol. Now the stands are half empty. Or is that half full? :willy:

I was surprised at how many seats were empty at Charlotte, yet the owner claimed "that was the most tickets they had sold in 10 years." :willy: :ohnoes:
