Not sure if anyone actually believed me when I started talking about a 6.0 swap, but I don't talk about shit I'm not going to do. :D2

Got the ball rolling today, and called a few places. There are currently three engines I'm looking at. None have any of the accessories (A/C, PS pump, alternator, etc.), but everything on my truck has been replaced recently minus the A/C, so swapping it over would be a non-issue.

Engine number one (the leader, so far):
  • From an '05
  • 12,600 miles
  • Pulled in May (6 months ago)
  • Front end impact
  • $1950

Engine number two (no major differences from the first one):
  • From an '05
  • Pulled in August
  • Roll over
  • 14,000 miles
  • $1800

Engine number three (20k in such a short period worries me a bit):
  • From an '07 GMT800
  • Pulled in December of '08
  • Roll over
  • 20,000 miles
  • $1750

I'm leaning towards the first motor, but I'm still going to do some looking this weekend.

Thoughts?

Are they just the longblock or do they come with the intake to oil pan?

20K miles in 1 year is a bit on the high side but not by much. I would be mor e worried on how long the others have been sitting, since they are both '05 with low miles. They either weren't hardly driven or have bee sitting for 3 to almost 4 years.

What fits your need/want list and will work in your truck? I know some places and people that I can check Dan.

You do know that you could do a 5.3 and a cam for less and have something really cool right?

+1

The 07 engine would be my first choice.

Not 100% sure about the second two, but the first one the guy said all he pulled was alt/ps pump/ac/starter. Sensors and everything are still there.

Yeah, the more I thought about it, the 20k could've been put on over almost 2 years, but who knows. The fact that it's been sitting pulled for almost a year worries me a bit.

I'm sure any of these would be fine, but I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything obvious.

I think he has his heart set on a 6.0. Also he could turn his 4.8 into a 5.3 and cam it for way less.

I'd build my own engine before I spent that kind of change on a boneyard engine. I realize the boneyard engine is a good engine, but the minimal difference in performance plus the installation and wiring/computer hassles is going to be big on this one.
