Dennis...time to get your Diesel Geek on! Is there ANY benefit to dumping the Cat, and getting one of those super-duper down pipes with the tune that I have loaded?

PPEI guys tried to talk me into doing this (in order to sell me more parts I assumed) mentioning that this was the recipe with Cory's towing tune.

Thoughts?? @drperry

The factory down pipe is complete garbage, lol. The cat itself isn't a huge restriction.... But the down pipe is a 2.5" oval, damned near.

Power wise, there won't really be a big difference, but with the new pipe, you'll probably drop 150 degrees on the EGT probe.

She'll spool a little more quickly with the free flowing down pipe... And cuts down the WOOOOO noise when you dump the boost, lol.

No huge differences, but not a waste of money, either. Especially because you tow.

With my truck, I could have kept the cat, and went with an aftermarket down pipe...

Depending on the pipe you get, you may loose the factory EGT probe.

That bad, huh? Like, remove the tranny, bad?
Nah, just a PITA, lol, some people get lucky and it comes out like butter, and others, not so much.

Pull the heat shield off, before you try getting the pipe out, lol. If it's still being a whore, loosen the cab bolts and jack it up 1/2 - 1 inch for extra wiggle room. Shouldn't have to, but it'll make it easier.

If your new pipe isn't wrapped, you're going to want to wrap it, or put a heat shield around the heater core lines... The pipe that came with my turbo kit wasn't wrapped, and it dried out one of the heater core hoses, and it split. The new GM replacement part has a shield of sorts, so you might be good... Just double check it while you're in there, lol.
