Between my first picks and my last, though, was over a 50 pt swing. If I hadn't "thought" Fox was going to NOT score bonus points for this race because of the rain / delayed start / competition caution, I wouldn't have scored nearly as well as I did.

Yeah, if it hadn't been for my paranoia about Fox arbitrarily deciding "we're not scoring bonus points this week - just because it rained," I think I would've finished behind Jeff.
