Little history on our Acadia.
It is very hard on oil and has pretty much beat up every thing I put in it. The oil is shot at 5k miles with heavy fuel dilution. So after going through all the different grades of AMSOIL I'm trying some other oils per Terry Dyson's recommendations.

It seems that AMSOIL's 0w-40 ATV oil did the best in the AMSOIL brands but what really surprised me was that when the dealer dumped the oil when I went in to get the drivers side seat heater fixed. (they thought I wanted an oil change and tire rotation as well) they put in AC/Delco dexos1 5w-30. So I figured I may as well run it. Well the UOA on it came back better than anything I have put in it so far. Nothing major and the oil was still shot but it held up well. So now this next sample is Super Speed Sport synthetic from D-A lubricant. Terry is seeing very good results with it in vehicles with high fuel dilution so I figured I would try it in our Acadia. Not to mention it only cost me a six pack of my home made brew. So we will see how it did later on this week when I get the results back.

How did the analysis on that come back? As an Acadia owner, I'm very curious...

Here is what Terry wrote back and a picture of the report. My silicon finally came down, not sure why other than I must have gotten a better seal on the intake. The filters have been low mileage, I change them out at 10k to 15k miles. They report before this one is the AC Delco. The dealer that changed it only has it in bulk tanks, not in qts. Not sure if that makes a difference or not on the formula. The oil in the car before the AC Delco was the D-A Formula, they dumped it with only 2k miles on it, so it basically was a good flush/rinse oil for the most part. At least it wasn't expensive since I got the oil in exchange for a six pack of my home brew.

Nick, the D-A formula looks almost exactly like AC-DELCO Dexos formula. Very good result with lower fuels dilute than we have ever recorded with new lab but nitration and blow-by of fuels residuals sucks.

Summary :

1) low wear in spite of this engine shearing out this oil and all previous oils.

2) ring and power cylinder seal compromised but oil fought it.

3) nitration too high and IS building deposits because of it.

4) If you want low wear AND nitration in check RLI BIOSYN 5w30 Low Ash is where you need to head.

This is the longest I have been able to go on an oil change on this Acadia. Terry Dyson told me at 5k to keep the oil in for another 5k. I sent the sample off to see how it did. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Happy with the fact that it was in for 10k miles and no oil consumption. Seems a bunch over on the Acadia forum are having issues with oil use.
