We plowed for many years using an 8' plow on an F350 dump -2wd (might even have had an open diff) a 351C and manual tranny with a 1/2 ton or so of sand/salt mix dumped in the bed, or later in a sander. It can be done, but now we've upgraded to a 4wd truck and a 10' plow. The new Ford is an absolute Monster. we got about 3 feet in one storm last year, that thing pushed like mad.

The other trucks we have are an '08 Silverado 3/4 ton, not nearly as good due to it's much lighter weight. It came with an 8' Fischer plow mounted, never heard of trouble getting plows for Chevy's and my little toy- a Jeep Wrangler with a 6'. Coming for this winter is a massive snowblower for our Kubota tractor, there may be a fistfight over who gets to play with that one :D

If you've got a truck that you think will push snow, you may as well get the plow and give it a try. You can always move it to another truck if it doesn't work so well.

Both GM trucks we have that we would plow with are 2014's...

The company that I worked for previously had 10 plow trucks and the company he worked for previously had 2-3 times as many Chevy plow trucks without a single cracked frame. Some of the guys running those trucks smack the crap out of some curb and car stoppers...
Hey, if you still want to do it, then by all means, go for it. Your trucks, your money, your choice, I'm just passing along info that I found when I considered doing it with mine.

I'm sure you've got something "useful" to contribute! :jester:

Yep, I do.

First rule if snow plowing, pay attention:

If you buy the plow and install kits for your trucks this year, it definitely will not snow enough for you to pay them off. Be prepared.

We definitely don't have that rule apply here, but everywhere I lived in the NW it was law

Yee, yee, yee...

That's some good info right dur!

I was planning on financing 2 of the because they have a 0% offer. If we get snow we'll pay it off, if not then we make payments.

 people suck, and employees are dangerous with plows

Transmissions were the only thing we saw fail on our GMT 800 2500s. Straight up abuse changing gears F to R while rolling. No frame issues that I ever saw, not that it matters on the 14s you have.

I would lean towards buying a truck with the plow already on it. I like the idea of letting someone else go to the trouble of installing the plow. And I don't like the idea of thrashing a nicer pickup with a plow.

Here about the only trucks with plows are complete beaters. Most people use a skidsteer or a tractor. But you can get a plow truck for a song here, since most people don't want one that's had a plow on it.
