With what you just posted up there Nick...there's no wonder places are having a hard time getting good service techs. Hell, you have to be a damned rocket scientist to understand and work on vehicles in this day and age of "change."

Here is the procedure to replace the brake pedal sensor.

Brake Pedal Position Sensor Replacement
Callout Component Name
Preliminary Procedure
Remove the left instrument panel insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side.

1 Brake Pedal Position Sensor Bolt
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution.
Tighten
3 Y (27 lb in)
2 Brake Pedal Position Sensor
Procedure
1. Disconnect the brake pedal position sensor electrical connector.
2. After the installation is complete, calibrate the brake pedal position sensor. Refer to Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration.

OK, so it IS a rheostat / potentiometer...
You are right, it will have to be calibrated by using the TECH 2...
Hope you are still under warranty...
The caddy still uses the old fashioned switch.

Well and update to this is that it was the brake pedal switch/potentiometer or what ever it is. Total cost was $118 to have the dealer replace it and then calibrate it.

While I was there the did a recall on the air bag harness update. Keeping fingers crossed that nothing else goes wrong and this thing will hold out for at least 5 more years.

Anymore, a hundred bucks is nothing to get a car fixed, especially at a dealer.

What sucks is we purchased an extended third party warranty and I didn't ask about it when it was in for the fix. We never purchase them but this time we did so it slipped my mind. Other wise if we would have used it the cost would have been $50. Now I know better. Seems I always learn the hard way.

I think my dealer would charge over $100 to check the air pressure in my tires
