As much as I want to throw in a GoBigOrGoHome smartass comment, I need to assess your situation :D2

Just towing the boat and the toys?

6.2 with the lastest heavy tow package, and airbags would serve you well in a half ton. I feel confident I have towed, and hauled with every single GM with weights from the mild to the extreme.

If you are daily driving, and towing 3 days a month, go half ton.

Definitely a consideration still. Thank for the input.

I agree with Scott on all the above.

I may sound like a pansy but I'm spoiled by the ride of a half ton. A friend of mine has a '13 Duramax and I lose some excitement after riding in it (yes, he has 20's so that contributes to the rougher ride). I know I would get used to it but I sure do like the way a half ton GM rides.

Unless you decide to grab a skid steer for farm work (it seems like you mentioned that at one point maybe), it sounds like a 6.2 would be the ticket.

If it will meet your hauling needs, I can't recommend the new GMs enough. The difference between my Sierra and my previous 08 silverado is massive. GM really knocked it out of the park this time. I was going to look at the Rams too, but after I drove the GMC, it was all over.

To be clear...there was nothing wrong with my Silverado. Loved that truck too, but this one totally eclipses it.

It's funny you mentioned the Ram! I rented one a few weeks ago and I was not as impressed with it as I thought I'd be.

Not really wanting to buy new, unfortunately. Just sell these things too damn often to buy new.
