I think it's time for a Toy/Work hauler upgrade.

My current enclosed trailer is 20'X8.5'X8 with 3500lb axles. Trailer weighs about 3200lbs by itself. Since we bought it in 2008, I've put new axles on it and dozens of tires. It's a great trailer but it often rides over loaded.

I am currently considering a V nose trailer with thoughts that it may be a little bit better on fuel mileage with less wind restriction. Also it might be a foot shorter in height. Looking at trailers that are 22'X8.5X7. I want to get a trailer with 5200lb axles. As far as weight difference, the 24' trailer weighs about 3600lb, dry. I would have to guess that the 22' might weigh a 100-200lbs less.

Respectively, I think the weight difference between the current trailer and the new candidate would be pretty close. I know with properly weight axles and tires we might even save some rubber!

Here are the trailers...

Okay, fine, $500, but you deliver half way.

That Tyrex would fit rather perfectly in there. You might have enough room for a air mattress if you were to camp with it.

I'm not in a position to sell it until I get a new trailer.

Makes sense Brian to get a proper weight rated trailer. I'm sure it would help on tire wear since it would be set up to haul the weight.

Yeah I am also still thinking strongly that we will see some better fuel economy with it too.

If you're overloading the trailer, I'd consider stepping up to a triple... Save you a few pennies when DOT finds you

Unless your axles are causing some odd flexing in your tires, heavier duty axles won't increase tire life... You're using load range E tires, right?

With 5 lugs, that thing probably came with load range C tires...
