Should Bowyer be booted from the chase?

So... Clint Bowyer spins out on purpose at the end of last night's race... (not my opinion - watch the videos).

Shouldn't NASCAR take action considering the fact that it changed who got in and who did not and was obviously deliberate?

Bowyer's late caution raises questions

He didn't wreck Newman. So, I'm not sure what the big deal is. :dunno: I'm sure others have done more to change the outcomes of races.

Unless they can get someone to admit that he did it on purpose, I don't see how they can prove he did. Unlike when Jr did it a few years ago, when he basically said "I'm going to wreck next lap, so I can get a yellow" over the radio.

Right. I think the comments about his arm hurting or itching were some sort of "code" to give him an excuse (if he needed to come up with one) for why he might have yanked the wheel..

But, I don't see where Bowyer broke any rules to "penalize" him. Even if they came up with one, I doubt they would go so far as to knock him out of the Chase. "Maybe" take his Chase bonus points away (if he actually had any), but not knock him out of it.

Since "he" didn't benefit from the caution and he didn't wreck anyone or directly "knock" anyone out of the Chase.. and Logano still had to gain a few spots on his own, I don't think there's anything "penalty worthy" here. :dunno:

Think of it another way. If Ryan Newman (or Jeff Gordon, for that matter) had gained one more position in any other race this season, they would've been in and what Bowyer did (what little he DID actually do) wouldn't have mattered the least bit.

I'm watching the post-race coverage now. I agree with what Ryan Newman said. "If we were a championship contended team, we needed a championship contended pit crew and we didn't have that tonight."

Actually, this goes a little deeper than Bowyer's spin. I came across an article pointing out that MWR had Bowyer and Vickers pit after the caution in order to boost Logano's finishing position. Truex got in because he beat Newman for the Wild Card. If Gordon got into the top 10, then Truex would have lost to Logano for the WC.

Well, Bowyer had to pit because be blew a tire towards the end of that spin. It looked to me like just about everyone pitted. So, I'm not sure how much that effected things..

If Newman's team hadn't screwed up, he could've restarted on the front row, which could've changed things for him. :dunno:

Let's see if I have this right.

Bowyer spins, MWR hoping that Newman will lose the lead, either in the pits or on the restart.

Bowyer and Vickers maintain position ahead of Logano, who is a lap down at this point

MWR calls in Bowyer and Vickers during green flag racing to move Logano up two places

Truex stays ahead of Gordon, ensuring he won't gain anymore points and miss the top-10

They definitely did their best to control the points results, but there's still some pretty big "If"s in there that could have screwed it up for them.

Bowyer came in again to "check for damage" after the restart. If you watch the replay, you can see him coming off of pit road on the last lap.

Vickers got called in and responded "What? Who, me??" on the radio and got back the replay "Come in, we need the point" (according to one article)

Doing this moved Logano up two spots, in the end he finished 1 point ahead of Gordon, keeping Logano in the top 10
