At that price no, you can't go wrong. Hell throwing a few parts at a problem is becoming cheaper than a trip to the dealer. I always hated doing that but the way the dealerships charge, it is cheaper in the long run.

How To Replace Evap. Vent Solenoid

Hello evryone, Im new to the forum, i have been reading around and this place is awsome for knowledge. I have an 09 Chevy Silverado 1500 2 wheel drive VIN # 3GCEC23079G121685. My code that came up is P0449. I need to know if there is a cheaper fix than what the dealer is charging? I read here that the part number 25932571 will work on some other models but this part does not look like mine. Mine has two hoses going to it, that part number only has one hose. I found the recomended part number from the factory on amazon for 71 bucks with free shipping, but there is an extra part to it also? Has anyone install this new part or what is the part number to use with my truck? Thanks

You're not still under warranty?

The "extra parts" are a rubber hose and a small box with a filter in it. These are supposed to keep dirt out of the Evap system. The old (cheap) design is a larger canister, maybe 3" diameter X 3" tall, one hose going in and it would vent around the top of the cap. The newer style is a smaller can, ~1.5" diameter with the same hose going in and another hose leading out to a remote filter box that can be routed somewhere slightly cleaner than the bottom of a truck :)

How to replace evap vent sol

Nope, i have almost 100k miles on it now. I found the video on how install the new solenoid. I am going to try it tonight. Its just the one that the truck has now has two hoses on it. But i read that the top hose is the hose that vents up by the gas cap. So I think now I have to reroute it back to the top of the transmission with the new filter.

My '08 Silverado 5.3 had the "upgraded" two piece evap solenoid and filter from the factory. The solenoid failed so rather than buy the two pieces(part #214-2082) again and pay $65 on amazon or $126 locally I reverted back to the one older piece...

part #214-2149 acdelco
aka gm #25932571

$14.55 on amazon +
$3 for 1 foot 5/8 heater hose and 2 clamps localally

less than 10 minutes install fits perfect
cleared codes
works great

Bigredmariner,

Great job and thanks for you help with this code problem. I have a 2005 3500 with dual tanks and a 12' flatbed. I think I understand now why the darn thing has been so difficult to put gas in. Nice job on the video the editing was perfect.
Thanks again:flag:

No problem, glad you found it helpful in getting your problem figured out. I can't take credit for the video though, it's just one that I found on youtube. Once I watched it I didn't figure there was any need for my country ass to try and out do it.

Hello, I'm also new to the forum. I recently bought a 2007 Chevy Tahoe LTZ with 135k miles. It needed the standard 100k mile maintenance, which I expected so I've spent some $$ getting it taken care of. However the check engine light has been staying on for 3-4 months now and the shop I took it to is saying the evaporator canister and evaporator solenoid are bad and need to be replaced with a price tag of $334. Yikes! After reading through the last 19 pages on this forum, I'm wondering if I'd be better off just replacing the one-piece solenoid rather than switching to the newer two-piece? :dunno: What would you suggest? Also is it fairly easy to do on a Tahoe? Hoping so. Thanks!

The Tahoe isn't too much harder than the trucks to do, haven't done one myself but a cousin did his and said it wasn't bad. I believe he said it was somewhere around the spare tire area or something like that.

If anybody with a Tahoe knows for sure, please chime in.

As far as which one to use on the replacement: I would roll the dice and get which ever one you can get the cheapest. Chances are it will last 100K miles before you have to mess with it again. And you can do it way cheaper than a shop, as long as you have a jack and a couple of basic tools.

There's 2 evap solenoids, the vent solenoid which most people in this thread have been replacing and the purge solenoid up on the engine. My issue turned out to be a broken wire to the purge solenoid.

The actual solenoids on the various evap vents seem to be the same, if you're actually having problems with the solenoid operating, and not a clogged vent, then shop for price and you can pull the solenoid and "can" apart and use the original vent assembly
