This week, I must admit it'd be an Audi A3. For some reason, I just really love that car.

My dad has an '06 A3 2.0T with the DSG transmission. It's a great car. And that DSG......it's a fantastically good trans. My dad was on the fence about the DSG...but he is very happy he got that trans.

I like the VW and Audi offerings but I sure do see a LOT of them with prematurely dead 1.8T and 2.0T engines. It's quite alarming. They crater with great regularity at about 80K. Hardy the quality mark I am after in a vehicle. One VW dealer I deal with calls me quite often with "another" dead one.

I'm thinking in a few years after the wifes car and my Yamaha are both paid off, I can afford a new truck. Most likely will be a Chevy or GMC crew cab. Possibly a Tundra if they get any better gas mileage by then(and if they are still makin em:lol:). Still not sure on whether I'll be keepin the Burban or not cuz I'm sure in 2 more years it REALLY wont be worth anything. The book value on this thing is droppin faster than a girl's panties on prom night. :uhoh: Maybe I should just keep it as second vehicle/roadtrip vehicle since I'm sure I wont get sqaut for it as a trade in.:dunno:

What about the 2.5? Our little Jetta has 40K on it now (it's a 2005.5) and it's humming along just fine. It's been one of the best cars I've ever owned. Fantastic quality, not a problem to speak of and 35MPG hwy.

The non turbo engines seem to be doing a LOT better. Automatic transmissions are still horrible. Manuals last forever. Mazda and VW / Audi can't build an auto trans that lasts. I don't know why but it has been an ongoing problem for many years for both.

Thanks for the info.

My wife loves it, it's paid for, and it still has 48K and 4yrs on the extended warranty so if it breaks, whatever. :D

It's just nice to know what to expect, or at least what to look out for.

Don't mean to knock them. I like VW. Auto trans won't grenade before 100K. Very important that they get the recommended services. I think the 2.5 will live a long life.

I appreciate any honest knowledge about any vehicle I own. I suppose I could have bought an Impala and never had to worry about it, but I didn't. :p

Hey we bought my wife's 05 Altima in early 2005 and have had only 2 issues with it, the front struts kept making noise (they replaced them like 3 times) and the crankshaft sensor went out. Its got like 68 or 69k miles on it now and still going strong. Gets about 26-28 MPG in the city and 32-34 MPG on the highway even with my fat ass ridin in it. Brakes went bad this summer (rotors warped) but I honestly think that was partly due to my wife's driving style. :dunno: Anyways, the new drilled and slottors rotors w/ceramic pads have made a HUGE improvement. Hopefully they will stay cooler and not warp like the stock rotors did.
