Don't you hate that? Needed a water pump inlet for my car, ordered one online. A few days later, a thermostat housing shows up.

Now not only do I have to return it and wait for another one, I'll probably find something else to re place since it's apart and drained of coolant. Project has already expanded to a new radiator, my as well do the hoses too..

Besides that, the $$$ I saved by going online is now being burned up in my truck driving it to work for an extra week

I can relate. Ordered a front wheel bearing for our Acadia and got a 10 lug unit, at least Rock Auto made it easy to return and credit my card back. Went with Amazon the next time for a few bucks more and received the wheel bearing in two days since it was a prime item.

You always replace hoses when you work on the coolant system, that is just a given in my book. Well unless you just replaced them not to long ago. The rule use to be change out hoses every 4 years, but that has seemed to go out the window anymore.

Synthetic compounds in modern hoses are a zillion times better than the old brittle and cracking rubber hoses... but if a car has some miles on it, I'd still replace the hoses if I was diving into it. Cooling systems get a pretty good workout down here.

I hate getting the wrong part, but it happens.

The part was ordered from a "Facebook friend" who has a business selling used parts to support a racing habit. Price used is 1/2-1/3 what the new one would go for at your typical parts places.

The car is ~15 years old and has 90K miles. I'll probably just do the upper & lower rad hoses, they look decent, but with an aluminum head you don't get much warning between burst hose and warped engine :) Choice is either $30 for 2 hoses or $100 for all of them or $1k for a new engine. Though a toasted engine might be a good excuse for a V8 swap :naughty:
