Would automotive swamp-coolers have a good marketing perspective back there?

Cheaper than a regular air-conditioner, in some cases about 5 times cheaper, and with a lower impact on fuel consumption, roof-mounted swamp-coolers became an usual feature in long-hauling trucks back here. More effective in dry places than in humid ones, but I've seen them even in Amazon. They're also easier and faster to retrofit into older rigs.

And since it doesn't require an engine-driven compressor, remains working with the engine shut-off while the driver sleeps inside the cab.

Even in those armored cash-transit vans it became an usual replacement for regular air-conditioners.

Using water instead of a synthetic gas, it also has an environmental standpoint for those who believe in antropogenic global warming. The overall energy consumption is about 90% lower than with a regular air-conditioner.

No, too hot here in the summer to be comfortable. I'd rather burn the extra gas and have my nice cold ac.

I use a swamp cooler in the shop at work and half the time I run the fan only because it makes it too damn humid. I couldnt imagine using that shit in a car.

they used to be used a lot in Amarillo, TX and worked pretty good. Still used a ton in New Mexico, "refrigerated air" is still a new "concept" in many parts of NM.

Lots of new homes in Santa Fe have giant swamp coolers on the roof instead of AC.

I've had plenty of experience with them, I pick good ol', expensive refrigerated air any day over evap coolers. There's some areas where it's common to have both. Run the cheap evap when it's in the 80s and 90s then kick on the A/C when it actually gets hot.

The new house we are moving to will be the first one I have ever lived in with refrigerated A/C....almost everything around here is swamp coolers....but I wouldn't want one in my car!

With so many people paying $5 or more for a cup of coffee, I can't imagine there being a huge market for a "cheaper" (but less effective) alternative to AC to be put into cars in the US.. (at least not mass-market) :dunno:
