So a few months ago my friend came to the shop and saw my jeep and asked if i wanted a winch, i said sure why not but how much. he said 100 bucks and he said it was a 12000lbs winch and i was like dam hell yes. but he owns a impound lot and he said it was under all of his crap and it would take him some time to find it, so ever week i kept asking him, dude where is it?! haha he never had time to shovel it out.

Today i was at work with my dad and i saw him pull up, i looked at him and he said "hey come here". in my mind i was like dam finally haha

i went to the back of his truck and the winch was sitting there, he said dude grab it. took it out and layed it at the shop floor and noticed it was a 8000lbs winch....he said he had it on his 04 dodge and got rid of his truck. i asked him so how much, he responded "nothing man dont worry about it, you guys do too many favors for me". i argued with him but he said its not a problem only to just give him the old mount it sits on and i said sure why the hell not haha.

So guys here i am sitting with a free winch for the jeep :)

now my question is, is it a good winch and does anyone had any idea or other threads that i can take a look at to build a new bumper later?

the way it sit when i got it

You should be able to fab up a nice mount for it and a nice roller fairlead integrated with your bumper. I have no idea about the remote, surely somebody knows where to get one. Leo?

With integrated I just mean if you build a bumper from scratch you can have the roller built into your bumper as opposed to having a bolt on thing that you have to buy. I've seen a couple of the things you've posted, I think you could build a nice one.

The few I have built, I went with a a hawse type fairlead, definitely tougher, and lower profile.

The square tubing type bumpers you were building were what I had, and I just used 3/8" plate on top to mount the winch, and gusseted it.

and what im thinking is adding to the frame so it comes out more and putting 1/4" thick plate for the housing the winch
