Why lower a 4x4?

How is 4wd used at the track? 4wd hi or 4wd auto? Is it just used off the line, or leave it engaged all the way down the track?

Most of the diesels ive seen run.... launch in 4wd and kick it out when things are going good lol... But all the ones i have seen run had a manual shifter.. No push button stuff

I have the manual transfer case which won't shift out under power, so I stick it in 4hi, and stay there all the way down.

The pushbutton stuff is not as reliable as a manual shifter.
