I like the throttles all black, doesn't look ricey like with the machined sections. Do it already!

Which do you like best though, the all matte spokes or the two-tone?

Re: Wheels - Time for some changes - UPDATE: Fuels it is! ?

I was just thinking about the two tone, that's gonna be a BITCH to do, A LOT of masking.

I know a little about pcoating sicne I've had a lot done and Rich has disclosed how it's done, his secrets and 20+ years of experience, plus he's sprayed stuff (including some of my parts) while I was in his shop.

In order to get the two tone done, I'm thinking, the whole face would be done in a flat black, such as black magic, baked and cured, then the flat area masked off and the rest of the wheel sprayed in a gloss black such as super durable wet black.

Although not required, I was hoping to coat everything in flat and gloss clears for added durability, but that won't happen since it would be a 4-5 stage process with a ton of masking and most likely would cost more than the wheel itself.

So the process I described would only be a two stage process, I just hope where the two finishes touch/overlap it would be durable and there wouldn't be any lifting. I have a few emails sent out to a few wheel repair shops, so I'm in the process of discussing the options right now.

The simpler flat black face and gloss lip/barrel would still look good, there is detail in the spokes with the split design they have going on. Then I could get the flat clear over the whole face, and the gloss clear over the lip/barrel like I want, with the masking just around the lip edge where it meets the beginning of the face/spokes.

I actually think I like the all matte better.

I think matte face/gloss lip would look best, and be the easiest.

So the wheel repair shop that was highly recommended by James' paint guy, sends me this reply this morning.

"I will have to pass on this job. What you want to do will not look right. The flat and gloss will just wash each other out. There is no way we would make you happy so if in the future you have something keep me in mind."

Is he for real? How he handled that shows good business sense. What a moron.

Translation: "I don't want to do anything that requires any real work. I'd have to mask carefully and take time and I just don't want to do that."

Sent him photos of the before and after pshop I did, of the two tone wheel, not the simpler option, explained in detail what I wanted and asked him for a ballpark price and if he thought it was something he could handle. All I said was that it would most likely require careful masking. lol

His first response was, oh you're going all flat, yeah we can do that.

Then I replied and was like, actually, it's a gloss and flat scheme. H apparently didn't read through the whole email, what a piece of work. That should've been a sign, I love it when people rush though stuff like that and get the facts wrong.

Yeah it was the "it won't look good, the gloss and flat will wash each other out" is what cracked me up. I didn't realize these were going on his truck.
