Re: Wheels - Time for some changes - UPDATE: Fuels it is!

It's not. I am getting the A Arms, Skidplate frame and springs powdercoated first.

The powdercoater I've used in the past tried coating the springs in NIC super chrome only to get small specs on the chrome finish that look like dirt but are tiny powder particles that clumped together. It was so bad I went there today and I told him not to bother spraying any clear on it. He apologized and I took them back. He told me to get my truck exorcized..lol

The other pcoater I had found that I dropped stuff off to has apparently had some issues in the shop he shares with metal polishers(the drama never ends I swear), so I'm picking that stuff up tomorrow and driving over to a reputable shop in PA that is going to finally take care of me (I hope), so I can get the springs sent over to KING, they are going to be that black chrome now, not taking a chance with the super chrome anymore. If all goes well he will do the wheels for me too. His masking of multiple powder colors/finishes is flawless, and his powdercoating looks top notch. He even offers pick up service and passes by my exit once weekly, so this may work out well.

I'm about to buy an oven and teach myself how to powdercoat because there are A LOT of hacks out there and I've had nothing but major problems.

And I'm dropping off my exhaust and skidplate to get polished by a metal polisher who did polishing for me back when I had the Saturn featured in two magazines, I located him and he's going to hook me up with some mirror polishing on the stainless steel.

So I'm busy planning my next move, making calls, scheduling things to hopefully get done once and for all.

So glad I didn't order the BMFs, James seems to be having serious issues with them(as are others too), again I go with my gut, don't give into the pressue and I come out winning.

I have some oxidation on the machining that will most likely be warranted, i wouldnt call that serious by any stretch of the imagination. An inconvenience sure, serious problem? Hell no. Having my 2k coilovers stuck in jabibsville utah for months is a little worse. The most serious part for me will be if i have to pick new wheels since im riding on the nicest wheels out there.

Funny how you keep downplaying it, yet you posted threads on internet telling people to BEWARE of BMF's and that many other people are having the same issue, so it sounded pretty serious to me.

Doesn't sound like you are willing to live with them like that, they're going to just get worse, it's been less than 2 months. Get a new set and the same thing will happen. And I told you the flat powdercoat on the stealths are crap, yet you are still considering getting them? They do NOT have a clearcoat over them, BMF powdercoats that smooth cast wheel with probably one thin coat and the flat powder seems like it's super delicate.

Who had 2k coilovers stuck in Utah? You should get your facts straight, they were $200 coill SPRINGS.

i'm letting people know what could happen. if you spend that much on a wheel to have it oxidize (or whatever it is) is a PITA, it's not a SERIOUS issue. a SERIOUS issue would be the wheel breaking apart or cracking thats SERIOUS, this is just annoying. lately BMF's have been having quality control issues, thats no secret. the fact remains they are still by far the nicest wheels made, thats why i'm willing to give them another shot. According to a big BMF distributor the stealths ARE NOT PC'd they are painted with a semi-gloss.

will the wheels get worse? who knows. can i live them as they are now? sure, but if i can get a brand new set for free, why not? i've heard of MANY MANY issues with their chrome (which they have since switched to PVD or C with a 5 year warranty), now i've heard of several issues with their DMB wheels, i've still only heard of 1 issue with the stealths. i've also heard they aren't making any more wheels untill their issues are resolved. as long as they take care of me i'll give em another shot.

as for the springs $200 is still $200, it's not 2K, but i wouldn't want to throw $200 in the garbage, so to me thats serious.

If you can get a new set of wheels, then go for it. I'm just telling you, if this set did this under 2 months, so will the next set. They sure aren't going to keep giving you new wheels every 2-3 months. This is happening for a reason. If you clear powder clearcoat over bare aluminum, you will see white spots, the oxidation, this is what aluminum does. Which is why every OEM wheel you see out there is powdercoated silver, they cover the bare aluminum with a silver basecoat before they clear powdercoat over them.

I highly doubt the stealths are 'painted'. Powdercoating would be much more cost effective for them, it's cheaper, easier to apply. Nobody 'paints' wheels anymore. Plus there's no way they would use paint in a liquid form and then NOT paint clear over it, plus if they were 'painted' they would require some type of primer for adhesion, which I guarantee isn't under that satin black finish.

And as far as the infamous springs are concerned, serious, no, annoying as hell, YES. But I got them back, so that fiasco is over.
