What did you do to your truck today?

Found what killed the new alternator in my GMC. Will correct it tomorrow and replace the alternator as soon as Autozone can get me one. The dead one is one of their Duralast Gold's, w/lifetime warranty.

Well, I only moved mine around in the drive way, and did a good wash on my dad's truck, and tomorrow going to do the interior, and maybe wash the harley too. Also found the source of my AC issues, the compressor seals must be leaking, because yesterday I noticed there was oil on the side of the compressor.
Does anybody know if they can be rebuilt fairly easily, or if it would be wise to buy a new/better one?

O, and what caused your alternator problem Bernie?

High resistance in a crimp connector. My starter burned out awhile back, and took the battery cable with it. When the local shop replaced the cable they used a cheap butt splice to connect the pigtail on the new cable to the fusible link pigtail going to the alternator. High resistance there causes the current output from the alternator to try to find a different path (least resistance) and that usually blows one or more of the diode pairs. I can't do a voltage drop check on it without the alternator working, and a resistance check isn't 100% accurate when a fusible link is involved, but the melted plastic and corroded metal on the cheap butt splice sorta gives it away. :)
