Attempted to recharge the A/C system. Seems to have worked, but I think I need to add a little more.

Had to drive 30min into MN to buy the can of 134a; can't sell it in WI. Got the 18oz can for $24 that came with a gauge and short hose. Got it home and the tiny little stem in it was broke so some of the freon got out. :)() The directions were pretty good except they never gave what the PSI should be with the compressor not running. The can tells you what the PSI should be at the given ambient air temp with the compressor running. Well, my system was low enough that the compressor wouldn't even kick in. I first started out trying to fill it, but then realized I was above 60psi with the compressor not running and began to panic. Then I realized I should check the PSI on another vehicle, that I knew was functioning properly, and see if I was OK. The car I tested on was sitting at 90-100psi with the compressor not running and 30-35psi with it running (and it stayed steady on both readings). So knowing that I was alright, I proceeded. I got my truck up to 35psi with the compressor running and pretty much emptied the can. I'm leaving it as-is and seeing if it all leaks out or not. If it maintains pressure, I'll probably get another can of the stuff ($19 without the gauge/hose). With the A/C on, it doesn't seem as cold as the vehicle I used as a test subject. According to the gauge, I still have another 5psi to go up until I have to start worrying.

Anyways, don't know if anyone else has ever tried this stuff or not, but I figured I didn't have much to loose by giving it a shot.

I know this should probably actually go in a separate thread, but I want to see if it works first.

Parked my butt in it for eight hours and operated the radios. Made contact with 26 different Virginia counties or independent cities and 7 different foreign countries during a contest this weekend. My points total this year were 1,000 more than last year, and last year I took 2nd place in my group.

That was last year. This year my score was 1,000 points more than last year, but I'm still well under the kind of score needed for first place. I have 3,864 points this year. Last year first place went to a team with more than 12,000 points, and the record was set in 2008 with 202,000 points. I have a lot I need to improve to reach those levels. :)

Still, the certificate for 2nd looks nice framed on my wall.
