I'm doing some experimenting. I can go to a 17 inch OEM wheel and tire combo and lose over 13 pounds per corner. I want to see what effect it has on acceleration and economy.

I'll probably keep the 20s for a future Tahoe or Suburban project. Prices are dropping on them since gas is high!

Those 17s look great with an aggressive tire :thumbs:
It's more the weight of the tire than the size that kills performance :uhoh:

Yip. The same size tire can vary as much as 10-12 pounds from different makers! Michelin makes some of the lightest.

Going from my 20 inch wheels to OEM 17s will save as much as 7 pounds per corner depending on which OEM wheel I end up with (If I find a set).

If you are trying to save weight, what about the Tahoe hybrid 18 inch wheels? They are supposed to be super lightweight. :dunno:

Or the Yukon Hybrid, it has the same wheels but with GMC center caps.

I remember losing about 2MPG (actually 1.7 mpg) when I switched from my OEM 17s to the 20s. With gas prices what they are, I thought I might try hypermiling the old Sierra just to see what is possible. Something to do anyway.

My average mileage since new is about 16.22 mpg (according to DIC gallons of fuel used versus miles). This is very close to what I get when figuring mileage at the pump under normal driving (heavy foot) conditions...

Might be interesting to see what a few changes might do. I have already emailed Justin about a few changes to make to the tune.

For that kind of money I can buy some super nice super light aftermarket wheels...

Must be why he still has em.
