Hey Guys n Gals!! Yep I'm new here as of yesterday n wanna share this experience with ya... I have a ridiculous IFS death wobble in the '01. Like losing stuff out of my cupholders n door pockets after 20 mph death wobble LOL

5" susp, 3" body, 39x15" tires

So here's what I've found... My fairly new shocks (4mo old) had rubber bushings pretty much blown out of them n had about .5" up and down of freeplay by hand. probably from the wobbles

Replaced those today with energy susp. reds top n bottom, nice n tight now but still the same condition

ball joints are newish n tight, tie rods are tight, one wheel bearing is a month old the other is tight, pitman n idler feel good, steering box is tight as can be... Truck was aligned 3-4 weeks ago... and I rotated the tires to no avail

Now this started with 33" tires as a slight shimmy, then with 37's it got a little worse only when I hit a bump. Now with the 39's my truck is a lawn ornament!! Haha

I can hit 35-40 but the road will only stay smooth for so long!! once I hit a bump or a friggin crack in the road It's done, Pull over :dunno:!! this can happen at 20, 35, 40mph as long as ther's a bump to set it off

So tomorrow I'm gonna look into everything again and look for freeplay, something's off I'm just missin it... I'll let yall know what I find

P.S. I have installed a steering stabalizer and that didn't fix it either... and I hope I posted this in the right section

You need a heavy duty dual steering stabilizer for anything over 35's:cheers:

And your idler arm 's will go fast....take it all the way off and check to see if its bad.

Thanks man I'll order one up as soon as I go through everything... I think its gonna take a lot more than one more shock absorber to stop this.... its real bad, I mean really really bad...

Lol I got that part... I have a single, one more would make two haha there's more of a problem here. One more shock on the centerlink isn't gonna stop stuff from flying outta my cupholders but like I said I'm gonna order a dual stabalizer setup as soon as I go through everything... I'll pull that idler arm in the mornin to check it, thanks man!

In the Jeep world we call that death wobble. If your steering components are all tight, you need some serious steering stabilization due to the sheer size and weight of the tires.

So after further inspection I've found a bad lower ball joint and a bad idler arm... I jacked one side of the truck up and used the wheel as leverage only to see the center link and idler move in ways they're not supposed to.

Before, I could only half ass check it out cuz my daughter constantly wants me to play with her Haha, but this morning I set her up with some dress up games on the computer and got the jack out and went through it real good...

I'll replace this stuff in the beginning of the week and go from there

That may well solve the whole deal. Once you have all of the steering stuff in good order your current stabilizer may be plenty.

Keep us posted.
