This is for you engine builders. My truck is stock minus exhaust, The torque in a 5.3 is spread out over a flat band which is good most of the time.

The problem I don't like is it doesn't start building untill 2,000 rpm, The 305,350 gave you everything they had at 25-2700 rpm. I have had several GM trucks through the 90's and IMO they pull better.

My question, Is it the cam that dictates where the engine makes its torque, or is it a combo of cam and intake? I don't really care about going faster, I want my truck to pull better with out needing to run the RPM up 4000.

Thanks

The only thing about the 305 and 350 is that once you did get up in the rev range they had nothing. I thought the LS engines had a good mix. Could definitely use some more bottom end though.

I am not knocking the ls at all.. over all they are much better and more durable.

That said, the later model 350 made 355 foot lbs at 25-2700 rpm " thats peak torque.
At 3500 rpm which is on the down slope of the curve it is still within 10 ft lbs of my 5.3 with its current setup.

Side note.. My last truck that had a 350 was also a 5 speed I wish you could get a manual with the newer trucks..

You betcha
I do not feel this loss of low end you speak of.
My old 5.3 Sierra was pretty gutless under the curve. Only way around it is a supercharger with mild boost.
