You find out pretty quick that most vehicles are simply average commuters once you start going out and driving them. Unless you want to spend 40 plus grand, the pickings are few.

We started out looking at performance... but we have broadened our scope to include most anything that catches our eye and has decent resale value. Lack of utility in real day to day life and cheap interior components have narrowed the choices even more.

The somewhat good ones under 40 grand so far are:

Mustang GT (2 door coupe means not much use other than a car)
Subaru WRX STi (powerful - wagon styling makes it useful - rides like a covered wagon)
Camaro V8 (if you can handle not being able to see out)
Nissan Pathfinder (good power - great utility - lots of equipment - not sporty)
Nissan Murano (drives great but stylistically challenged)
Subaru Outback (great wagon utility - larger than the WRX)
I hope your looking at the dealerships internets pricing. It is normally their low price and can save you some $.

The business I am in... I know somebody at almost every dealership. Getting max $$$ for my trade and getting a good deal on the new one is not an issue. Just need to find what we want.

H6 Outback.. Not as powerful and it doesn't handle nearly as well as the STi. BUT, it'd ride a lot better, have more room, and it can be made to handle better (than stock, not than the STi) with a few relatively-inexpensive mods..

I think you guys looked at them when you bought the Accord. But, give it another look, maybe with a little different eyes than you did when you bought the Accord..

I like mine. It does well just highway cruising and with the better rear swaybar and the front strut tower brace, the handling / cornering is stiffened up some and it doesn't feel like it's going to just KEEP rolling over when you put it into a corner and push it some..

I have "heard" that some companies are finally developing lowering kits for the Outbacks. But, I haven't really looked into them, because I don't want mine any lower...

Although, the Legacy is basically a lowered sedan version of the Outback.. So, that might be worth a look, too. :dunno:

The Outback is a great car too. I love the utility of a wagon.

Added to the list.

When I got mine, I wasn't impressed with the handling.. at all. But, the RSB and FSTB made it more.. "enjoyable" for me.

It's not for everyone. But, if you're liking the utility of the Impreza hatch, I think the Outback is at least worth a look..
