This is a brilliant move by GM. The costs of this vehicle were taken care of in C.11, and by selling it now, they won't be tarnishing the retail marques (like Ford is doing with the Taurus/Explorer) and they will be very profitable.

Wasn't the VUE based on the same platform as the Equinox? Why have two Chevy models based on the same platform..??

I don't know what platform it is based on but my mom loves her Vue. It runs great and handles very well. She has the AWD with a V6 and 6 sp.

Ford isn't tarnishing the Explorer or Taurus name. In fact they are generating great interest. If anything GM is whoring themselves out in typical fashion. They just bribed Enterprise into buying 3500 excess Impalas by giving them a whopping 7200 dollars off of dealer invoice PER CAR so that they could reduce unsold inventory.

I also thought the Vue and Equinox were the same platform. Really doesn't make much sense to sell almost identical models under the Chevy name. Glad to see GM is back to the same good business practices that ran it into the ground a few years ago. You would think they would learn. :dunno:

I just looked, it seems that the Equinox is based on the Theta platform (and has been since it was introduced) and the current generation Vue is based on an Opel platform. They do share very similar dimensions and will have the same engines. Still doesn't make much sense. :dunno:

Even before the phaseout of Saturn this version had been offered for Mexico, Brazil and Uruguay as Chevrolet Captiva Sport. It's essentially a rebadged Opel Antara, and its platform was actually developed by GM-Daewoo in South Korea. There is also a slightly different model with the same platform also badged as Captiva, but it's more like an AUV.

Bull. I would be mighty pissed if I just spend $45K on a Taurus just to have my local police drive the same car for $25K. Ditto for the Explorer. Ford already ruined the Taurus name once. That is why it was replaced with the Fusion. And now, all of Ford's attempts to take the Taurus upmarket are futile because theya re going to be whoring them out to fleets.

If anything GM is whoring themselves out in typical fashion.

Um........no, not even close. That is the whole purpose of this Chevy Vue. They are taking machines that they just had laying around and putting them to good use by making a fleet only SUV...thereby saving the other retail marques from the terrible stigma that gets affixed to fleet cars.

And like I said above, GM is producing this Vue for PENNIES on the dollar. It is costing them virtually nothing to make this Vue 2.0. So even at fleet prices, they will make a killing.

GM is doing what Ford should be doing.

Maybe it's just the picture but that might be the ugliest vehicle I have ever seen.
