Another factor I left out is the 02 is a long wheel base and mine is a short. He dosnt want the long bed and it would be good for me because of the pirogue and other small boats I throw back there. He is gonna come show his mom my truck in a day or two and I'm gonna check his out while they are lookin at mine. If I'm gonna have to fork out $ to fix something then I'm not giving him cash. His truck is 6 years newer than mine btw..

I would ONLY trade if it was an even swap, no cash involved.
And I wish I was closer, I could help you with that wiring. I actually like working on vehicle wiring.

For starters, do you want a truck with a 3/4 drop? If not, you'll have to undo that.

Of course, you'll also have to fix the hack job he did on the wiring out back. If he can't even swap out a fuel pump without fuggin' stuff up, you can BET there's a lot more he has screwed the pooch on than you think.

Additionally, if his own mother thinks trading his newer, lower miles, bigger engine, longer bed truck is a good trade... RUN! She has a MUCH better idea what all he has fWONked up on that truck than you do.

The first thoughts for the 96 was to drop it so I'm ok with the that.

Something I left out is the whole reason I know about the truck. The truck belonged to my 21 year old neighbor untill three months ago. I helped him work on the truck and I know the truck was mechanically sound up till he sold it to one of his friends. If I would have known he was gonna sell it, I would have bought it from him myself. So when I inspect the 02 I'm gonna be lookin for anything the new kid could have done to it. I know he put new bucket seats in it and he attempted to change the fuel pump. The only reason he has to get his mom to look is because he has the 02 in his moms name and she dosnt want the kid to trade trucks with me. I have receipts to a valve job, flywheel, clutch kit and slave cylinder, and new combination switch for the blinkers and lights. I think I can convince the mom to trade with the help of her son. I the mom was excited about swapping truck I would be weary. This is all depending on my inspection of the 02 and the moms go ahead.

I have worked on many trucks and SUVs of this platform. I know how these fuel pumps fail. Most likely the wire harness shorted out to the pump. On most occasions this happens in the tank. To fully check out this hack job you will have to drop the tank and inspect the pump bucket. If you can say its good and a easy fix, next is why the lights do not work. There on a different harness and I don't see why that would be cut.
You will also have to make sure that 2/4 drop was done correctly, otherwise you will have front end problems, driveline vibration and may have driveline problems.
If this all checks out, next is the normal stuff; checking the engine, transmission, and being down here A/C.
Be aware that occasionally on the 4.3l the intake gasket needs to be inspected as they fail. It's a easy fix if you do it yourself. Injectors are another known issue.

Not trying to deter you from this swap( an even one at that), but to be sure you know what your getting into. If we were closer, I'd come look at it. Remember, there are plenty of vehicles out there and you don't NEED to take that one.

Also from the pictures of his previous vehicles it dosnt seem like his mother cares what he drives or she's an idiot. He's under 21 and has an older Honda civic he bagged then wrecked. Then an older Mazda truck that he bagged and made look pretty good then wrecked. He dosnt seem to be pulling a fast one on me, he is just a stupid kid with a single parent that spoils him whether its a good decision or not.

^ this makes it even more suspicious. Why cut the entire harness? IMO if I were to cut anything, it be the pigtail going to the pump itself.
