Station Wagon for 2014?

The next generation Ford Mondeo - sold as the Fusion on the US market - was first caught testing as a sedan, but our spy photographers have recently spotted the wagon version testing in the snowy Alps in Europe. It’s still not clear if the wagon version will be offered in the U.S., but in Europe it’s the most sold variant of the Mondeo.

Now that the 2013 Ford Fusion‘s sheetmetal has been exposed, one of our illustrators has grafted cargo space onto the back to create a wagon. And a good-looking one at that. Since the new Fusion will be sold in Europe as the Mondeo, this rendering is more relevant to the continent. But because we’ll never tire of telling you enough how much we dig station wagons, we couldn’t help but pass this along with the hopes that–cross your fingers–it could also end up here in the U.S.

I actually like it, not enough to buy one, but if I were in the market for a wagon and it was being sold here I'd strongly consider it.

Paint it black, put a vinyl-covered top and replace the rear side windows with panels (covered with the same vinyl) and it'll become a nice hearse

But actually wagons are interesting, it would be cool to see anything beyond the soccer-mom vans and crossovers

The spy shot looks a lot more like a crossover than a wagon to me.

If that really is supposed to be a wagon, we have a new winner for fattest car.

Well... a crossover is just a taller wagon anyway. They are basically an SUV, but we can't call them that so the greenies can buy them without having to feel guilty.
