Hey all, i have a question id like some input on. I have a 98 Silverado 2wd ecsb. At some point this spring i will be installing Energy Suspension control arm bushings. In the past when i have done this on my cars, i just used a floor jack, and jack stands to remove the coil springs. Now that im older and wiser id like to use a spring compressor. Which style would work best for my application, inner or outer? Thanks CM65:)

the only outer spring compressors I would trust would be the ones that have the locking pin that locks them to the spring.

I would use an inner compressor when ever it is possable though.

Becarefull I have had them jump out of the old style and get me in the chest. That shit hurts like hell.

The reason i asked about inner or outer was because of clearance issues, its pretty tight in the spring pocket of the frame. I was just wondering how others have removed their springs. Thanks CM65:)

I was planning on using a spring compressor to remove my springs when I installed my leveling kit, but like you said, there isn't room for much in there, so I talked to the company I bought it from, and they said, just take out the 2 lower control arm bolts and have a jack under the control arm, when I did that, there was little to no pressure on the springs, when I had the truck jacked up, so IMO you don't need a spring compressor for this particular setup.
This was on my 96 FYI

if you have any other questions, let me know

Other methods are fine... until something slips. A spring under pressure isn't something to mess around with. If it will hold up a 5000 pound vehicle, it's pretty damn serious...

Use a compressor whenever humanly possible for your own safety.

As long as they are secure...

Coil springs will come at you like a pissed off Grizzly Bear.
