the belts usually cause slippage and the retarded noise. mine went away after the dealership replaced the belts. Funny thing is that they replaced the belts 4 times under warranty so I guess the OEM part sucks...we shall see if it squeals this winter...if so, it is getting replaced with the highest quality belt that I can find...

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
were you having the squealing, or was it just time to change preventive maintenance style..

My GMT900 is squealing on cold starts, and I'm wondering if it is the belt.

Thanks

It is probably either the belt, or one of the tensioner / idler pulleys.
When you change the belts...check all of the different pulleys REAL GOOD for signs of a bad bearing.

I just need to check into it. The belt looks fine, and I have a hard time believing the belt on my 2007 truck would be bad.

I brought it to the dealer in for some other warranty work, and they "couldn't duplicate."

Nice write up Jarrod.

I didn't realize they switched to 145 amp alternators. When searching for a belt for mine, they ask if I have the 130 amp or the 105 amp. (Mine is 130) I wonder if the 145a can be swapped in place of the 130a? Rockauto has the same belt listed for an 06 silverado w/145a and a 01 Suburban w/130a. :dunno: If so, I'm sure a lot of 99-02 GMT800 owners will want to do this to gain a few extra amps. Here is my alt, its the original one and its stamped
"130A", I circled it in red.

Picked up both tensioners and both belts today!

As soon as I can leave the wifey again, I'll be a busy fella with this and the servo kit. I have a buddy down the road a bit with a two-post lift that should make it all easier though.

I also have a buddy (my best friend who is a Toyota service writer) that's building a 30'x50' with a lift in it that's .3 miles from my house. Yay for me! FREE LIFT!!!

So do I just tell them I have the 145 amp alt. and the v8 and they will figure out the length?
