I thought I'd read elsewhere that this was for big trucks for the time being. Hopefully it proves successful and makes its way into passenger cars without tacking on $100/tire.

One of the readers comments..."Or you could just not be lazy and check your tires everyday. Laziness is the main cause of tire failure on commercial vehicles. If my unfit ass can gauge 18 tires every morning, anyone can. Some can't even be bothered to do a visual tire inspection. If you know how to read wear, it can be very beneficial to tire life".

Though it may be a great idea, it's just adding to a list of other things that are making everybody that much more lazy.

Checking for visual wear and inspecting one's vehicle shouldn't just go away because of a tire designed to maintain proper pressure. Gauging each tire every morning sure seems like a tedious task if there's a simple solution. Pilots still check their planes regardless of what new control system is put in place. Same sort of thing here, IMO.

If it reduces fuel consumption and helps keep product prices from rising any faster than they have to, I'm all for it.

as long as it's not another bogus thing (like TPMS) that discount tire is gonna tack on to my bill then I'm fine.
