Back on the turd.
Went to salvage yard I had previous luck at, they had a 92-92 engine cradle. of which I wanted to powdercoat in the same silver vein powder since I have a ton of it left over. My existing engine cradle is al beat up, has tears in the steel from being pulled up onto a flat bed once or twice, has a fair amount of rust, and as notched to fit a downpipe, looked like a hack job too.
So, I arrive, and am amazed at how clean it is, buy it for a fair price ($117, they quoted me $200 over the phone lol), get home, get under my car and realize they're NOT the same. Guy claims it came out of a 1992, it's def a later cradle, possibly even 97-02 with low mileage since there is barely a spec of rust on it.
After some research and info from a few knowledgeable fellow saturn forum members, I realize I can still use. The only difference is the A/C stuff is different (no prob since I haven't had A/C in the car sicne 1996), and the radiator tabs are different as is the radiators 94+, again no problem sicne I was thinking of getting a new radiator anyway, then one of the dogbone brackets is different, something I can get from any salvage yard. All in all, not a bad thing it ended up being a much newer cradle.
Degreased and powerwashed, almost too nice to strip. I just feel it'll look just too cool under there in the silver vein.
Dan, is your engine hoist free, or is it holding up your old engine still? If so, I may have to rent one, cause I was also thinking of replacing the oil pan which i noticed is all dented. Not sure the 4x4 jig would allow us you remove/replace the oil pan depending on where it's being chained/held from
