5.13 gears? Why so steep? I know you have tall tires but dang.....

need low gearing for the offroad aspect. After the diesel swap 4.56's would be a great ratio for street, but this thing will be an offroad truck aswell. So its getting low gearing, its actually higher than what it was im going from 5.38:1 to 5.13:1

BUILD ON HOLD:

Yeah, thant makes sense when you still have the gas motor, but with that 4BT you wont need more then 4.10 gears. The Cummins makes all its torque around 1500rpm, so its all you will need. JMO.

Sure, the engine will turn them with 4.10s, but the trans WON'T be happy.

He would be fine with 4.10 gears. With 5.13 gears hes going to be turning like 2800rpm on the highway. Doesnt sound bad, but the B series Cummins redlines around 3000, making the motor not very happy. A diesel engine makes its peak torque way lower down on the rpm band then a gas engine, so where running at 1500 rpms with big tires would strain the trans behind the gas engine, the diesel engine and trans will be happy as a clam.

I wont have any pictures of anything till friday at the earliest.

picking up tires, wheels, and axles friday/saturday. ordering stuff from Farmboy Fabrications friday aswell.

Id really like 4.56 ratio but the 5.13's will be fine, the truck will only see the interstate every now and then. Im setting it up more for local street use. Ive been looking for a way to improve the torque range of the 4bt with no luck, id like to get red-line around 4,800.

Got my axles, wheels and tires yesterday. Still need to buy the parts from Jesse @ Farmboy Fab.

But heres some pictures of what I have. I will need to rebuild the axles since they do have some leaks, and it will be easier with them out from under the truck.

I did get some surprises though, the axles were supposed to be out of a 93 F250 which would have been a ball joint style frontend, well they werent they were 91 or older being that they are king pin. This was a great surprise. I also was happy to find the Sterlin 10.25 has a locker already installed (no stock Limited Slip). The front end also came with the tie-rod with 1" hiem joints, and DOM tubing, and a steering stabalizer. The biggest surprise was the stock hubs were upgraded to WARN manual locking hubs. Im very excited to start the rear build. I need to start piecing together rear disc brake swap, from what i have found its about a $500 swap so if i can find a GM 14 bolt geared to 5.13:1 with a locker and disc braked, I might just pick that up and get rid of the sterlin 10.25.

Ill keep yall updated on the build as i get more parts in.
