Waiting longer really shouldnt make a difference... if you're stopped, 1-2 seconds is plenty.

I'd go under the truck with a good pry bar and make sure all of the mounts and joints are good. Rule out the simple stuff like a trans mount shifting, drive shaft binding, rear axle shifting, etc first.... make sure the driveline is in proper operating condition.

Maybe take a look at the trans fluid too.. check the level, color and smell.

And last but not least, you might be better off dealing with a good local trans shop in the area as opposed to the dealer. Unless you have a really good relationship with the dealership, you're probably going to get hosed for the lift/tires/tune so a warranty repair is unlikely.

Approx how much is a heavy duty trans? Parts? Labor?

I bet me you and Dan can install the trans.... hardest part is lifting it in place (but a floor jack and motorcycle jack help (i have a motorcycle jack... we might have to lower down your truck though!)

I forget where Dan ordered his trans from. Shoot him a text and tell him to stop studying and get his ass online.

RPM, FLT or Phoenix for a built trans. Don't look anywhere else.
Performabuilt makes a nice trans.

Also grease your slip yolk. The clown has write up on how to do it. It has caused many thuds and bumps in the trans area. :dunno:

Dan upgraded to the 4L65E right? There shouldn't be a difference in driveability of a "heavy-duty" trans should there? Just asking since a 65E might be nice someday.

You betcha
minimal difference between the 60-65E. The trans Dan has is a built 4l65e which has perfomance parts which are hardened over the regular garbage GM puts in the normal trans. Also I'm sure he probably has an HD-2 shift kit, servos etc. All of this changes the shifting dynamics of the unit drastically. It's not at all like stock anymore.

So is it worth it to "upgrade" and make a 60E into a 65E?
(I realize he's got a built trans; I think he got a Level 5 or 6 from FLT??)

No. Not worth the time and money unless you replaced a bunch of other stuff while you are in there.

Thanks for the useful info guys, I'll check everything and rule out the obvious, although, if it were a trans mount it would do it everytime not once and a while I would think. :dunno:

I think my poor wife soiled her panties on the last one over the weekend, she was with me, it sounded and felt like I backed into a large immovable object. :)

I've seen some pretty odd things happen. Something (like a mount or joint) keeps building up pressure over time and then finally releases which results in a pretty harsh slam... then the process starts all over again.
