Is this signs of the spalling you're talking about Jarrod?

If so what am I looking at to "loosen" it up (for lack of a better term)?

That definitely looks like it. Is that your ring gear? Either the lubricant broke down and didn't do it's job or they set it up the pinion and ring gear lash to tight.

Yes it is and as I said I "THINK" the previous owner said they got the gear lash wrong the first time and had to re do when the truck was re geared.

Now I'll be the first to admit I don't know fWONkin' shiz about rear ends.....well not on trucks anyway.:naughty:

I HOPE it's just a matter of them being to lazy to clean the cover off or that with a combination of (as you said) the gear oil breaking down.

As I said previously this is the second time (in the little over 3 years I've owned the truck) I changed the gear lube and first time pulling the cover.

I would like to believe if there was a BAD problem even a novice would hear/feel something not right. If not I guess I'll see more of that shiz when I pull the cover again. :fume::fume:
