He's old skool though, that could be why.

My father had it on the front of his Benz, mirrors and headlamps too, and it seemed to work sicne he had no scratches, rock damage and/or cracks anywhere.

I've never heard anything negative about the 3M stuff that wasn't purely anecdotal. NEver seen proof of problems of any kind.

At the time it could've been because he figured if you used it, you would have no need to go back to him for a repaint job since it works so well. Or he could've known very little about it or how it actually works, who knows.

On a brand new truck, I would've def tried it out James. I know your truck is no longer black but remember all the stone chips you had on the front of your hood?

So, I wrapped the coilsprings in large bubble wrap several times, and put them in an oversized box with plenty of packing peanuts just to be safe. This box could be dropped from 30 feet and the contents would be safe. :)

One thing I will note here, as I stated in Dans guitar thread. FedEx Ground is SUBSTANTIALLY less ($13 less) than UPS Ground. Granted I got the shipping quote for FedEx through my account which saves you a little bit, but the difference wasn't just a couple dollars.

To ship this 26x19x11 26lb box the rates for the three carriers was as follows:

FedEx Ground $30
UPS Ground $43
USPS Priority Mail $58

I usually get a quote from all three also before shipping stuff out to customers. 9 times out of 10 FedEx is the cheapest route for me also. The price difference between the three can be an eye opener. I don't ship enough yet to get huge discounts from anybody so checking the three is the best way for me and my customers to save. I will only charge them actual shipping rates so I make nothing off of shipping. I never liked those places that would charge more for shipping just to profit from their customers.

Sent from my phone y'all.

I used to use DHL Ground and they were always cheaper than FedEx by quite a bit. Probably the reason they closed their doors in the US. I was sorry to see them go as they were local to me too. I bet this box would've been around $23-$24 to ship if they were still around.
