Well, I finally got the ballast out of the truck yesterday between one rain downpour and another. When I got it out, there was RUST bubbling under the thing layer of "paint" that was on it. Seriously, I've had these in the truck for 2 months. 2 months and they're already rusting!!!!!????? WTF! Anyone else having this happen?

Anyways, I dropped it off at the Post Office before noon. It fit into the small $4.95 flat-rate box. I put the ballast in the original box (which I still had) and then filled up the rest of the space with packing peanuts. The delivery estimate was Monday (27th).

Rust happens quick.

The ignitor most likely burned out.

Pretty much any non-OEM ballast will have premature ignitor faliure (at least compared to OEM ballasts/ignitors)

So has anyone else found their ballasts rusting already?

Really, not even 3 months and their trashed? Wow.

Side note: A friend had to have one of those D1R factory bulbs replaced in here Cadillac SUV, $500 just for 1, ONE, bulb!

The ballasts aren't really built to be "exposed"... Hell, they're only good for light splashing, water protection wise.

And that's what happens when you buy from the dealership... You can get OEM (Phillips and Osram are the two bigger names for HID stuff) bulbs for far less on the internet.

I guess I'm going to have to make some water shields then.

If he would have told me, I'd have helped him find one online. I guess he looked and found one for $190 and the rest were $400. Another good reason not to go to the dealer.

UPDATE (again)

They sent me an email saying my order had been fulfilled.
Only problem is that it says:
Item ---------------- Qty ---- Description
RAPBallast-35W --- 1 ----- Raptor 35W Ballast
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this mean I'm getting a Raptor (slim) ballast and not my original Apexcone (large) model back?

I hate to complain but, WHAT THE FOKK!?!?!? Now I'm gonna have 3 Apexcone and 1 Raptor? I already made everything so that the Apexcone mounts and fits properly!!!!!

EDIT:
Ooops! just checked their website. Raptor is the Apexcone one. DDM HID Kit Slim is the other one.

False alarm!

I'm just gonna be happy when everything is back the way it was and working fine! I miss my HIDs, halogens are so dull in comparison.

UPDATE:

I received my replacement ballast today. You know how they send you everything in individual white boxes and then put all the white boxes into another box when you buy a kit.....well, they sent me the ballast back in only that little white box. No extra padding what so ever. This is total :bs:! I sent it to them in one of those USPS Flat Rate boxes (the small, $4.95 one) with packing peanuts surrounding the white box.

Anyways, I'm hoping to get the HIDs back in the truck tomorrow morning. Hopefully everything works :fingersx:.
