Sorry for the no updates on this, but I still haven't installed all the parts. I just didn't see the point in doing it before storing it for the winter.


As long as this is back up, I'm leaning away from using the PTM'd air vents. The painted ones just don't move and if someone does move them, the paint will wear right off.

Well, I took my time sanding parts here and there (mostly while watching TV). If I would have just done it all at once, I'd say set aside 1 day. Then I sprayed everything with adhesion promoter and filler primer in 1 day. I let it them sit over night and sanded the next day. I wiped them down and then painted and cleared on the 3rd day. On the 4th I rested .

I'm sure one could do this in 1 or 2 days, but I wanted to give them time to cure and be totally dry. Plus I don't think I could have sanded constantly by hand for an entire day.

I'd give this a good 3 or 4 days plus time for sanding them smooth before starting.

I have a few wires to run behind the dash trim panel before I put it in, but I'm planning on getting everything in shortly after getting it back out this spring.

I won't be painting anything that will prohibit me from driving my truck. I don't mind having a naked interior About how much did the supplies run you? I'm thinking about investing in a good spray gun, that just depends on how much they run.

I did everything by hand with rattle cans. I went through 2 19oz (I think) cans of SEM Adhesion Promoter at $20 a can, 4 8oz cans of DupliColor paint at $7ea, 2 or 3 cans of DupliColor clear coat at $6ea, and 2 cans of DupliColor filler primer at $5ea.

So paint supplies cost about $100 in paint. And maybe $15-20 in sandpaper only because I had to buy packs of 3 to 5 sheet per pack depending on the grit. I used 60, 100, 150, 220, and then 400 grit sand paper.

The 60 grit cuts through the plastic grain really good; 100 didn't seem to cut it very well. 400 was used after the filler primer to get it all smooth. I never sanded between coats of paint or clear.

You'd have to look back a little to see how many coats of each thing I did. I think it was like 5 coats of paint (to get full coverage; I'll never use red primer again ), 4 coats of clear, 4 coats of filler primer (so I had plenty to sand), and 3 coats of adhesion promoter.

I usually use grey primer on anything I paint. I may look into a little hand sander like a B&D Mouse. I'll just have to see about the equipment when the time comes, I need the money first! I'll probably go around to the parts stores to do some pricing. I know some guys that could probably get me the adhesion promoter if I can't find it. I think I may get some wax and grease remover as well.

I guess I prefer staying away from a power sander on this stuff just because I don't know how much damage you could do. However, if I were working on a dash or another large piece, I'd use a 3M rubber block.

I'm going to invest in a sanding block of some kind. I hand sanded my dash and it hurt like hell the next day. Lesson learned! I will have to redo the dash along with the rest of the dash. The problem with my truck is no one sells reproduction interior pieces so I will have to pull them from donor trucks. Other than that I'm good to go
