All the wiring diagrams I have are saying the reverse light wire is at the switch on the transmission.
You can try to find that B/U lights fuse you mentioned too. Or look in the wiring harness going towards the rear of the truck towards the tail lights and maybe you can find it there.

Yeah, there isn't going to be anything behind the dash or easy like that. Both the 5spd and Auto have the sensor on the trans themselves and then obviously the wiring running to the lights themselves; both of which are "outside" the cab, but oh well.

I guess if I want to be lazy about it, I could just skip this wire. Then I would just have to press the "off" button on it all the time when backing up, but I really don't use my mirror at night.

What do you think I should do? Skip it or make it work?

I don't think I need the exterior mirror for the auto dim to work. The rearview mirror has 2 light sensors (can't think of the technical term) on it. One is on the side you always look at (the glass) and the other is on the backside (facing the windshield). I'm pretty sure the rearview mirror triggers the exterior mirrors. I've never seen a sensor on the exterior ones.

Yep, that's what it is for. If I don't run the wire, I would just have to turn it off if I wanted to use it when backing up at night. However, I usually don't use the mirror at night very much; I just turn around.

The wire only over-rides the mirror sensors and is not needed for regular operation (from my understanding).

Well, I might as well do it. Just means finding and running 1 extra wire.



With this settled, I guess its time to start working on the truck. I still need to remove the sun visors and then remove everything to get the headliner out. I want to do this because of finding/making mounting locations for the OHC itself (I'm hoping all the holes are already there; I've got the clips the screws screw into) and for the holes I need to cut in the headliner itself. I'll have to head back to the junkyard to get some measurements for these holes.

We'll see what's going on next weekend. Maybe I can get everything out then. After that.....wiring.
