What do you call a limited edition of a limited edition? The Ford Mustang has undergone just about every angle and aspect of customization, and Mustangs have been built in honor of everybody from veterans to racing legends and probably even presidents. Many of these cars were made in very limited quantities, sometimes just a few hundred or even just a few dozen made before going out of production.Lee Iacocca, one of the fathers of the Mustang, got his own 2009 special edition Mustang. Just 45 of these special, silver Mustangs were made. Or were they?

At the Barrett-Jackson auction over the weekend, The Mustang News spotted a red Iacocca Edition Mustang sitting out in Scottsdale. So what gives?

When first announced, the $90,000 Iacocca Edition Mustang was customized from front to back in all new sheet metal. The Iacocca Edition came out just before the refreshed 2010 edition Mustang debuted, and it did not look unlike the new production Mustang. The crisp, sleek lines were available in only one color, silver, and just 45 Mustangs would carry the Iacocca badge. So how did this red one slip by?

It has the right looks, from the unique exhaust exits to the aggressive grille and massive chrome wheels. Hell, there is even the Iacocca Edition badge, plain as day. So was this car built this way by Galpin Auto Sports, the shop behind the Iacocca Mustangs? It is apparently car number 44, so maybe they decided to do one extra-special one for kicks, because it wasn’t on the auction block. Maybe next time around?
