Anyone install these Amazon cheapy backup cameras on a GMT800? I was looking into it and it seems like a harmless install but I will have to put another small monitor in the truck. Between my GPS and my ScanGauge II, I'm not sure I want another 3.5" or 4.5" monitor stuck to the windshield. Of course I can't install a Double-DIN head unit in my truck either and those motorized 7" flip up screen head units ALWAYS break.

Any inputs/suggestions/smart ass comments

I have thick skin (and can shoot real good!:gunguy:)
Thanks guys:flag:

I know several people who have installed the wired kind. They actually work pretty well. I've considered one for my truck, but never did it...

Perhaps one day I will not be lazy and do it.

Perhaps.

The reason that urged me to do this was I was fishing in a Bass Tournament a few weeks ago and a guy messed up his truck AND trailer pretty bad when his spotter wasn't paying attention. A guy backed up to connect to his trailer and basically rammed the tongue of his trailer into the tailgate and rear bumper. He tore the crap out of the tailgate, the plastic cover over his bumper, ripped up the trailer wiring connector from his trailer, and bent the tongue. We tried to beat it back into shape and it made it worse. Actually I didn't touch it but he did use my BFH:thumbs:. He ended up having to call a flatbed wrecker out to get his Bass boat home. Cost him an arm and a leg and all his spotter would say was, "Sorry dude." :wtf?::loser:

I plan on doing it but have to decide whether or not it's worth having another monitor in the truck.

I don't have time right now but if you go find my Tahoe stereo install thread, I had a single DIN with a $50 BU cam and it worked great.

I'd considered one because you can't see ANYTHING behind you in my truck. My cab windows are dark tinted and the shell also has tint. Looking back in the back glass is like looking at a black painted wall.

2-din conversions have been done to our style dash if you really want to go that route. You can convert to an '03&up dash (I personally don't think it looks right and you have to modify almost everything in the process). Most guys do it this way though. Just google "double din conversion silverado" and threads on various forums will come up.
Or you can just make the hole for the radio bigger. It also depends on the 2-din unit you get as they are all a little different.

Here are some links:
my favorite one thus far
another one

These guys also sell a kit to forgo some measuring and fabricating headaches. It's a little expensive if you ask me:

I might be doing this soon, but I have to find a double din I like first, so if you are interested standby and I can let you know how it goes.

I have seen threads on other forums where people mounted a small 2.5-3.5" screen just to the right of the AC control panel below the AC vent. You would have to relocate the airbag shutoff switch to behind the dash or glove box though. Another option is to mount a double din stereo. But much customizing of the dash is needed. You will either have to modify your dash bezel, or convert your dash to the 03-07 dash.

There are plenty of mirrors and single DIN units that can handle the display.
