I don't care if you don't like ethanol. It's a free country. Don't use it.

And the water retainage isn't what causes lower mileage. Ethanol has a lower HHV than gasoline (30% less). So you get 30% less efficiency per gallon. So E10 should technically yield 3% less mileage, all other factors equal.

Gas has less HHV than diesel. So you're wasting money by operating a gas engine, by internet logic

Believe me Nick, I wish I had the choice not to use it.
It is MANDATED around here... and in most of the entire US... by our all knowing, all powerful Gubmint...

Thus, I have no choice but to run it, if I want to drive my car.

Speaking of diesel, I have owned a few and liked them real well.
I wish the made a BIG CAR with a diesel... It would seriously be on my list.

You aren't saving anything. E10 is nothing more than a corn subsidy just like the useless E85 garbage.

if ethanol is a corn subsidy, gasoline is an oil company subsidy. :troll:
True but ethanol retains more water and ruins mileage. My 95 Buick Skylark got 4-5 more mpg on straight gas as opposed to E10.

I don't care if you don't like ethanol. It's a free country. Don't use it.

But nothing chafes my hide more than the "subsidy" argument or the "food vs. fuel" argument. Hardly a shred of truth in either of those.

I know the water isn't what causes the decrease in mileage. And "it's a free country, don't use it" argument doesn't work because in most parts of the country you are forced to use E10. I never said I liked subsidies nor do I care about the food vs. fuel argument. What I don't see is the point behind E10. It lowers mileage in most cars, especially ones that weren't designed specifically to use it. I don't see the environmental standpoint because Ethanol uses quite a bit of energy to produce and in the long run I don't see how having to run more gallons of E10 through your vehicle compared to straight gasoline to travel the same distance reduces emissions enough to justify it.

Ain't government great? :flag:

The ironic part is in Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and other midwestern corn producing states, you can readily get straight gasoline. :rollin:

That is pretty funny. The straight gasoline stations around here and around the areas of TN I lived in are slowing fading away.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
Like I tried to imply, I can't stand the gov't forcing us to use what they want. Whether it's fuel, light bulbs, selt belts, etc.

If something...anything... merely exists, the gov't believes it can be regulated... :fume:

And here's that "2% of the world's oil" put into perspective...

http://www.foxbusiness.com/on-air/willis-report/blog/2012/02/27/obamas-2-lie

Basically, we probably have enough oil to sustain us until we have a colony on at least Mars, if not longer (the article says 250 years, I would guess 150-200, depending on how the consumption rate changes). We have plenty of time to come up with a good, VIABLE alternative to oil as fuel.

On the ethanol side, as someone who was raised on a corn farm (irrigated), I think ethanol (from corn) is the biggest waste of potable water there is. The amount of water needed to grow (irrigated, not rain-fed) the corn and then turn it in to ethanol is, to me, outrageous. I've looked into several studies using algae and other alternative ethanol sources, and they blow corn out of the water (pun intended). Basically, corn is an expensive, resource-consuming way to produce fuel. BUT, its what we have, and it looks good to environMENTALists. :dunno:

how the fWONk is solar and wind power going to help our oil and gas prices? The fWONking electric companies dont run on oil...they are fWONking coal and nuclear powered...am I missing something?

Seriously?

The more energy we get from other sources, the less oil we have to use. The less oil we use, the less demand there is for oil. The less demand there is for oil, the lower the prices will go.

People seem to still be hoping for one magical solution (like the Hydrogen fuel cell that was supposed to save the world a decade ago), but the reality is that we will never find ONE replacement for oil. It is too cheap (for now) and too abundant (for now) to ever be replaced by one thing.

We all hate hybrids, myself included, but they are actually a good thing. Are the vehicles good in their current states? **** no, but they're a stepping stone to better things. Electric vehicle technology has improved leaps and bounds since the first ones, and it's still improving, whilst becoming more affordable.

We all bitch and moan about how the "greenies" are going to force us out of our trucks with the new CAFE standards and hybrids/EVs, but those technologies are actually GOOD for us that want to keep trucks around. The more cars get converted to new more efficient technologies, the more oil will be left for the "gas guzzlers".

We will run out of oil eventually, why expedite the process, when we can slow it? Why wait until we NEED alternative energy sources, when we can work on the technology now, and keep the things NEED oil to run around for longer?

Some of you really need to get over your irrational fear/hatred of anything new.
