Hey there Nick,

What are the advantages of the XL over the OE?

The OE has an attractive price. I am still contemplating the switch from Valvoline Syn.

I'd like to know the difference in the oils too.

Sub'd....I'd like to know what the differences are as well.

I went with the OE. According to Amsoil website it is good for "far longer than whatever interval your manufacturer suggests".....

Which means its good enough for my 7,500 intervals.

But I will be having it tested after the first change.

I was reading that, too. I was just curious about any significant advantages of the XL.

I really like the price of the OE, and if it is comparable to the Valvoline I am using, I may switch anyway.

I have long contemplated switching to the XL, but I just couldn't get past the price. I am getting 5 quarts of Valvoline for $22 right now.

If you switch I'd pay the $20 bucks and get the preferred customer discount....

Shits dirt cheap after that.

How long has Valvoline been making a synthetic oil?

About 20 years.

I started using it in '92 or '93 when I had my Super Coupe.

I was getting the 5 qt jug, and a single qt for around $30. I'd use a Purolator filter which cost around $6. So $36 every two months. I put the Amsoil XL in on November 20th, and have put over 5K on it. I'm down a little over 1/2 a quart, which is why I want to change it out. Those have been some hard driving miles, and I'm hoping that is why it has used the 1/2 qt.

AMSOIL oils are tested for much longer than recommended for. When I was at the meeting in Sept when they introduced the OE and improved XL oils they told us the OE oil is the XL without the extended drain additive package.

The OE oils compare with all the other name brand synthetic oils on the market including Mobil 1.

From my understanding and the info I have read, when they released the OE oil, they also upgraded the XL line. The new OE oil is almost identical to the old XL line, but just at a lower price. But the new XL is good for longer intervals, but IMO the OE is fine, I still have a hard time getting up to 5,000 miles let along 7,500 or 10K.
