Why buy new when you can restore?
Well, I still want to have fun with the ZR2 this winter so it can't go too fast.Sounds good Matt
Winter is welcomed too so that I can save some money (as very little as it will be with work being almost non-existent in the winter) so I can get the miscellaneous parts that I will still need when the time comes.
I'm extremely happy with how parts are piling up and coming together. This also means that the truck will be down for some periods of time while parts are being swapped so the ZR2 might not be going away right away in the spring...or at all.
We'll see what next year brings!

It's not such a bad thing. I get to have all the fun in the good weather with the Z71 and save it from the salt while having fun in the snow with the ZR2. If I didn't have the ZR2, it would be a boring winter.Winter storage FTL
I just wish I felt like working on the Z71 more in the winter. I have the time, not exactly the money, and it's too damn cold in the garage. It isn't very well insulated and is draftier than hell.

Well I can somewhat see parking a lowered 2wd, but definitely not a 4x4 unless it was a fully restored rig.

Well, last year, I parked my 4x4 to drive a 2wd.
I just don't like putting all the time, money and effort into my truck just to drive it in the salt and wreck it. No matter how good you think its clean after washing the salt off, it ends up somewhere you can't clean and starts rotting.

I don't have my marine intake back yet. I'm not in a hurry. Haven't started on the 0411 swap yet either.

Went on another parts run!
Picked up a diesel front bumper off a '96 K2500-LD (had 6-lug wheels) for $100. I've been looking for this one (with license plate, without impact strip or pusher bars) for a while now and finally found one. The front is great. No dents, ripples, or scratches, but the back is a little rusty. I'm going to see if I can find a chrome plating place in Minneapolis or somewhere that will clean it and re-chrome it. I guess cost will be the determining factor on this.
Also got a 14 bolt semi-float G80 out of a '93 K2500-LD (also had 6-lug) and a front diff (but this diff has the older thermal actuator; not sure if the newer actuator will fit or not, but I'm not going to use it) for $200. Both are 3.73 gears, but they have 233k miles on them (reason for removing was swapping to 8-lug). I'm not that concerned with the mileage as I will be fully rebuilding and powder-coating the axle. My buddy did an axle for a '73 Monte Carlo and it turned out amazing. I'll probably go to the same place to have mine powder-coated. Anyways, this thing is heavy and the drums are HUGE!!!!
Comparing the 14 bolt semi-float drums to my original 10 bolt drums.
Should finally have just about all the parts I need. The only other thing I'm keeping my eye out for is a cowl induction hood, but those are impossible to find (probably going to have to go new...and expensive). I should be set on body parts unless I run into something when the body-work time comes, but I'll worry about that then.
