That regrind cam you mentioned might be nice. Honestly, it might be more reliable setup. Probably isn't too much power difference between them.

I have that regrind cam i mentioned in my 63. It does pretty good. I run it with ported vacum off the intake with 16 intial and a cuve kit in dist. You think i ought to get the better style lifters? or stock lifters do? I heard they good up to 6000-6500rpm. Also was thinking maybe to much duration on the cam might not be good piston may come up to high and kiss a valve in higher rpms... I like the regrind 288 cam.

The specs on the GM look decent. I guess I didn't know, but people really like them over replacements like the comp. I come from the LS world where the GM ones are Chinese made crap unless you run LS7 ones hah.

What size chambers on those 400 heads? 76?
76cc---im double checking the springs he put on-said they are z28 and part number is VS739R-i thought they can handle up to a 550 lift. Not sure...
The heads are nothing special-real ol school. The engine is a 4 bolt block with 10.250 to 1 flat top 4 releif valves-engine is balanced.Nodular crank. Not sure if it be 10 to 1 or 9 to 1-i know it depends on the heads-the old heads im replacing where the 624 76cc-so i don't know which cc head that would give the 10 to 1 so i went back with 76cc and a better casting head. Trying to double check on those valve springs max lift. Anyone know? its about a 80 model block.

You will be lucky to get 9:1 with flat top pistons. You will have to run a dome piston. I have run these heads on 3 different engines.

Thanks guys-im ready to hear it run.Iv got alittle problem picking out the cam-can you guys help me chose? Im leaning towards a comp 280 reason why is i can get some better lifters than stock with it in a kit-i think. My springs are the LT1 z28 #"vs 739R"-they have 105lb seat-Ican get a regrind cam thats the same as the comps but with a 288duration.110 lobe on both and 480lift-help me out guys..what would you do?o and the regrind cam has a 6200 range vs the comp280-6000rpm.
