Those bumpers, or underguards, or whatever they are called, are a joke. There's generally not even a support going forward to help stiffen them at all. They are 99% cosmetic.
It's not very shocking that a flimsy, sheet metal tube with reflective tape cantilevered 2' straight down does very little when hit from the rear. What they really should do is add a post 45 degrees up from the guard up into the frame. Also, I was especially shocked when it was discovered that moving the supports farther outboard made the ends less likely to bend in. NO FUCKING SHIT!
